Rays vs. Jays

Tough luck, guys. It just wasn't happening out there. I wish we could win them all, but the saying says we can't. Them's the rules.

At least we have basketball

Nice win against the Timerwolves yesterday, eh? I guess you could say we buried 'em in the snow! Okay, maybe not, but I know *I'm* feeling buried in snow. Only good thing about Feb. and March is Raptor games. *grumble*

I'm falling asleep here!

Sigh. It's hard to keep up the enthusiasm, you know, when there's not much to cheer for lately. I thought maybe the Oakland A's might give us someone we could beat, but nooo...

Even Baseball Historians can't seem to bring themselves to say much about the Blue Jays.

Go team...?

Is this really fair?

Okay, are the Yankees THAT desperate? Seriously. How cheap is it to trick the third baseman into not going after the ball by pretending to be a member of his own team? And even worse... at one point, Rodriquez from the Yankees is defending the play, saying it's no big deal and everyone does it, and then the next, he's saying he didn't say "mine" at all, but rather said something more like "ha"?

Something's fishy here.

4 more weeks

The Jays, Towers in particular, are are doing a little spring cleaning. I believe Towers has promise but will have to work hard to make the rotation this season. Josh can pitch and Gibbons thinks this will be his big year.

Not my problem -- darn!

What would you buy with $24 million? I guess it’s not my problem—it’s Lyle Overbay’s, since the Blue Jays just bought his services for the next 4 years for that much money. My biggest issue is finding enough money for tickets to go watch him earn it. Well, at least I’ve got till April to save up.

We offered how much?

Holy cow, looks like they've figured out what to do with all that extra salary money.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells has been given a "generous contract offer," rumored to be the sixth-highest salary offer ever in baseball. Of course, Wells isn't talking about the exact amount, although he did acknowledge it's enough to feed a small country for a year. (My words, not his. But still true.)

Will the golden goose lay? Let's hope so, if this goes through!

Who to fill those rotation spots?

Well... so Ted Lilly picks Chicago over the Toronto Blue Jays. Then Gel Meche picks Kansas (although the jury's out on whether or not that was a good thing, given the salary he would have required). What to do now with all this money we're not going to spend? It's like window shopping at Christmas time....

Do we really get Frank Thomas?

From canada.com:

"The Toronto Blue Jays, starting to reshape their roster for the 2007 season, are on the verge of signing veteran slugger Frank Thomas to a two-year deal."

I don't know about you, but that sounds awesome. I don't know how much they're looking to spend on him, but I'm betting it'll be worth it. Nothing sells tickets better than a two-time American League MVP pitching for the Blue Jays!

From the Sublime to the Ridiculous

The Toronto Blue Jays’ tentative schedule for 2007 is out on mlb.com. We get to start off with a bang—facing the defending American League champs, the Detroit Tigers in Detroit on Monday, April 2nd. We play them the 4th and 5th as well, then head to Tampa Bay for a somewhat more relaxing weekend with the Devil Rays. They were 61 and 101 last year.

Our home opener on Monday the 9th will be against the Kansas City Royals, who also had a rather pitiful (62 and 100) season in 2006. Still, it doesn’t pay to get overconfident, especially since you look that much more inept if you manage to lose to a loser. Actually, once they’re playing somebody else, of course, I’d love to see those teams recover and move up statistically. Wouldn’t you rather buy tickets to a squeaker than to a rout?
